Enxhi Merpeza; Tirana, Albania; Sixth Week

This week we continued on with promotional translations and we also got a chance to deal with the official government website for tourism—they picked our brains about current touristic events happening around Albania that we thought would be good promotional material. It just so happens that we try to be tourists as well as give advice to the directors that we feel all other tourists would give as well.

It’s World Cup time and Tirana is bumping with games EVERYWHERE. It seems like the city never sleeps ever since the games began. We decided to go to the USA vs. Germany game and support/rep USA. Turns out we were the only American fans and everyone was looking at us like we were foreigners who didn’t understand futbol. But, needless to say, we are technically foreigners and they came up to us and spoke to us in English until we told them we were indeed Albanian nationals who just happen to reside, with our respective families, in the USA. People took pictures of us!
The all too amazing fresh meal we had at the top of Sarisaltik, cute little restaurants in the middle of nowhere you could say!

We ended up visiting the Kruja Castle on Saturday, the place of the dwelling of Albania’s national hero, Skanderberg who fought against the Ottomans in the 1400’s. As for the Castle, it’s partially authentic and partially restored, but fully amazing! We also had the privilege of driving higher up to the top of the Kruja mountain to see the holy temple, Sarisaltik, that is placed there, we walked around and explored.
Too scared to look down at Sarisaltik!! Yes, that's the ocean in the background beyond the fields of green and the majestic mountains and rolling hills!
