After 6 weeks of working directly under the Ministry and more
specifically the promotion branch, this week we got to connect with the National
Coastal Agency of Albania. They are technically still under the Ministry of
Tourism, but they deal with the coast specifically—this means everything under
the sun from research, to new companies/ vessels that enter Albania via the
Durres and/or Vlora ports. The director, Auron Tare invited us to help them
kickstart the opening of their new Volunteer Camps set in 10 coastal sites
along Albania.
Me and Ejona on the beaches of Golem with YES...a BEAR, I swear it's real. SOO FUN!
The ideas is that volunteers and students will stay at these
campsites and help clean up the beaches as well as engage in prepared
activities by the Agency. Volunteering isn’t really a “thing” in Albania so
it’s still moving slow for now, but we were surprised at how many people came
out to the opening of the new campsite at Golem, Durres, Albania. At the Golem
opening, the Prime Minister came by to launch the camp and since we were the
guests of Director Tare we were introduced and also greeted the PM ourselves!
It was a really fun experience. At one point I was asked to hold on to the
canon camera and be the photographer for the day!
That's Edi Rama, the Albanian PM with Auron Tare the Director of the National Coastal Agency.
