Lejing-Istanbul-Week 6, 7

Pareesa and I went on a four-day trip on week 6 and 7, so I am writing about these two weeks together.

The trip was to Capadokya and Konya. On Friday night, we got ready to take a night bus to Goreme, a little town located in Capadokya. The night bus was really fancy. I was really surprised that everyone got a little box of ice cream during the trip.

We got to Goreme the next morning. The Open Air museum was the first stop. There were a lot of ancient churches built in stone caves.

We attended the Turkish night show that night. I really enjoyed the performances, including the Whirling Dervishes, live Turkish music and dance performance, and the belly dance.

The next morning, we got up really early to see the sun rise and hot-air balloons. Very amazing!

Later that morning, we went on the "Blue tour" to tour around Capadokya. Our guide was a very knowledgable and kind guy. He drove us around to see the underground city, ancient churches located at different stone caves, and the pottery factory.
We were climbing down the chimney to the next level in the underground city. A little scary.
The special geographic scene in Capadokya.

The third day, we decided to go hiking to the Pigeon Valley, but were blocked by four furious dogs who were mad at us invading their territory. Thus we took an early bus heading to Konya.

Konya was a much bigger city than Goreme. We went to the famous Rumi museum, and later that day and the second day we wondered around the city to experience the authentic Turkish life.

We got back to our dorm in Koc at 2 in the morning. I was very tired but happy.

  1. Lejing,

You sound so busy! That's great! Public transportation is a much bigger deal in other countries. It seems to be much more accommodating. That ice cream looks wonderful! We barely get meals on planes...

I read Pareesa's post about the whirling dervishes. What an awesome experience! Too bad those dogs got in your way; I'm sure you would have had some pretty amazing pictures.

Don't forget to take pictures with UM swag! How is work going? Any new ideas/projects?

    Tammy
