Mawazine
Basically, Moroccans love music. It has never failed...other than our camel excursion, we have been to a music festival EVERY weekend regardless of where we have traveled! Mawazine is a huge week long international festival with artists from Ricky Martin - Alicia Keys - Stromae - Nancy Ajram - Moroccan Rappers. Fatima and I made it our mission to attend every day. We sometimes hit 2 concerts, as there were four different stages around the city.
Mawazine was amazing, but the crowds of young to old men were quite frustrating in terms on sexual harassment...I may have scared the crap out of a few of them. We eventually kept to the back of the crowds for a few of them. I have a new love for the French artist, Stromae....and no, I do not know French. Prepare for picture overload! We took crowd selfies every night and were always with some of my older students as well as some of our friends...and all of their friends. Safety in numbers!

Basically...we spent the week with amazing new friends and we couldn't have been happier!

ReplyDeleteWho knew that you would be going to so many concerts in Morocco?! Some of those artists are really well-known in the U.S. too. I'm interested to hear the French rapper, Stromae. I'll Google him later. Good to know that you are staying in groups. Anywhere where there are large crowds, you run the risk of having a few issues. Good tactic of having a meeting place too. Your group pictures are so much fun! I'm glad that you're enjoying the music.
